Burnley Women’s focus is on cup action for a second consecutive weekend, with AFC Fylde the opposition in the semi-finals of the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup.
It’s Rebecca Sawiuk’s team’s first outing in the competition, which they were the inaugural winners of last season, in 2023/24.
The game comes on the back of last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Birmingham City in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round.
It took an additional 30 minutes for the Clarets to be undone by their Championship opponents, after Millie Ravening scored a second-half stoppage-time penalty to make it 1-1.
After the final whistle Sawiuk and goalkeeper Kirstie Levell both spoke of their pride at the team’s performance, noting the levels of desire, energy and skill on display.
With another week of preparation behind them, the team are keen to get back to winning ways and secure a place in next month’s LFA Women’s Senior Cup final.
This weekend’s visitors Fylde play in the same division as the Clarets and currently sit bottom of the table. They have three points from their 12 matches played and are yet to record a league victory.
They have, however, recorded victories in the Women’s National League Cup and are likely to be buoyed by the appointment of joint managers Jake Williams and Steve Mainwaring.
32-year-old Jake and 35-year-old Steve were appointed last week and both UEFA B licensed coaches bring a wealth of experience, most recently securing consecutive league titles with Bury AFC Women.
Sunday’s game will take place at the Anchor Ground in Darwen (BB3 0BB), with kick-off at 2pm.
Admission is free for everybody, so if you can make it, your support would be greatly appreciated!
