Manager Vincent Kompany highlighted that 'fine moments' can prove to be the difference in games as the Clarets suffered a narrow defeat at Turf Moor.
Following a dominant Liverpool first half performance which included some superb Trafford saves, the Clarets came out on the front foot in the second 45 and created a handful of opportunities as Burnley pushed the Reds all the way until Jürgen Klopp's side added a late second in stoppage time.
Speaking post-match, Kompany discussed his team's battling performance and had praise for Liverpool, who rose to top of the league table with the three points in Lancashire.
The Burnley boss said: "We played against a top side today. So, I don't think the scenario and result was too in terms of being in the game and playing to push them for a result.
"We had our moments and they had moments too, it's fine moments. The team fights, the team is alive and the team is entertaining, it just lacks the final touch at the moment to reward these guys.
"I think it was a game where you could how dominant Liverpool were in the first half but we had big transition opportunities, it was just that final ball or the last pass or the getting past the last man in defence.
"I could feel it but we were just not as solid as we needed to be in the first half but the second half we looked more solid and I thought we were dangerous throughout the second half."
Kompany added: "This Club has it's own greatness and how calm & stable it remains and how the fans get behind the team. The players just have to keep working hard and it's coming.
"They're is plenty of talent in this group and we have seen it over different games. Keep making progress and moving forward together."
On Liverpool, Kompany praised their progress as the Reds moved to top of the Premier League table: "They're a top, top team. They have plenty of strengths and options in the team.
"I think they're intensity is getting back to the period when I played them as a player and in terms of recent history they were at their best back then and you can see that coming back through."
Trafford had another impressive evening in front of goal despite conceding after making eight saves to limit Klopp's side's lead at the break.
"It’s the same as I usually say, we are lucky to have two good goalkeepers. I have said it before, England is lucky to have a young goalkeeper like him coming through the ranks.
"It's just a matter of time for him and the consistency has to continue but we are pleased for him and his performance.
"I think with all young players it's that not making it just about him, you could make it about Odobert and he just has to continue that’s the job."
