Vincent Kompany once again had high praise for his side following Tuesday night's 2-2 draw with Rotherham United but admits chances should have been taken at the New York Stadium.
Scott Twine opened the scoring for the Clarets before a Vitinho own goal levelled things up just before the break. Manuel Benson then curled home a fantastic strike to regain the visitors' lead in the 81st minute but Georgie Kelly's close-range effort cancelled it out just minutes later.
Speaking after the game in Yorkshire, Kompany applauded his team's performance but insists the amount of chances that were created have to be put in the back of the net following a dominant display from the Clarets.
The Burnley boss said: "First thing is first, we played really well tonight. We created an unbelievable amount of chances and if you get all those chances you have to get that feeling and put it in the back of the net.
"I can't actually complain after that performance. The lads worked their socks off tonight and if anything, I actually feel sorry for them that they haven't come away with the win.
"It's football though and sometimes these days happen. So many chances were made and we don't come away with the result we want in the end.
"It got slightly cagey at the end and we allowed ourselves to be in cagey situations. You sometimes have to slow down the heart rate and be calm in these situations.
"It's a young back four though, they learn every game and tonight is another learning curve for them to experience."

Twine notched his first goal since January following back-to-back starts for the Clarets, meanwhile Benson fired in his first goal since Bournemouth in the FA Cup.
Kompany was pleased to see the pair both back on the score sheet and explained that the 'two hardest chances' of the night were scored by his side.
"Funnily enough, the two hardest chances we actually created we scored and the unbelievable chances we had we didn’t seem to find the back of the net.
"It's a great finish from both of the lads. Happy to have Benson back in the squad following his lengthy time out injured and there were doubts he would make tonight after Saturday.
"But no complaints from me of the out come, it puts us in the same position on Saturday in terms of what we can achieve."
A win on Saturday against QPR at Turf Moor would see Burnley crowned champions in front of a sell-out crowd and Kompany knows how special the atmosphere will be.
"We have given ourselves the chance to win the title at Turf Moor. It's a special place for us and undoubtedly it will be rocking on Saturday.
"We thought we did enough today to do it and get the win but it just means that we can hopefully do it in front of our supporters this weekend."
