Burnley suffered their first defeat of the season on Friday night at Vicarage Road, as Tom Cleverley's first-half goal proved to be the difference, despite a dominant second-half from the Clarets.
Manager Vincent Kompany discussed the result, the performance and his assessment of the opening three matches of the campaign.
Kompany on the result:
“Their side was very much the same as in the Premier League and I thought in the first-half, we didn’t concede chances as such but we just couldn’t get into our game, and the second-half was all us and we expected to be rewarded out of it, but it wasn’t to be.
“In this game in the first-half we didn’t have control and it took us to the second-half to have control and gain some chances.”
Kompany on his side’s performance:
“We’ve come away from this place with nothing to show for, and in a league with that many games, we have to make sure that we respond and go again.
“The difference between the first-half and the second-half has decided the game, if we could have continued in the whole 90 minutes that it would have been a different game.
“We hit the post and their keeper made some exceptional saves. Sometimes the difference is the inside of the post or the outside of the post. I see the guys improving a lot when they are playing together, and we need to understand each other’s movements.“

Kompany on the opening three matches:
"In this game you have got to score goals, and to score goals we have to create chances and that on that side of it we can create more but we have created enough to win games.
"Then you play against teams who did well last season like Huddersfield and Luton and Watford who still have Premier League players.
"We've conceded three shots on target I think in three games so that is a good thing.
"We have to get the consistency and learn about how the players fit into every position, and the relationship with other players and to integrate them. You are a few games down before you have the whole puzzle fitted and meanwhile you have to get results but I have no doubt we will have consistent periods of success. It is just a matter of time."

Kompany on back-to-back home games:
“It’s massive and having said that. We’ve got seven games in 22 days and time and time again, it’s a chance to improve and become a better team and that’s what we’re going for.”
