Manager Vincent Kompany says that 'learning comes at a price in the Premier League' but believes the Clarets gave a good account of themselves against Aston Villa in Sunday's 3-1 loss.
Matty Cash gave the visitors an early lead at Turf Moor before doubling his tally and Villa's in the 20th minute. Lyle Foster did pull a goal back just after half-time before Moussa Diaby delivered a third on the hour mark to seal the win.
Speaking after the match, Kompany was pleased with his side's performance against a Villa side who have scored 12 goals in their last three matches but admits when the side get punished they must learn quickly from it.
Kompany said: “Learning comes at a price in the Premier League. You could see the quality of the Aston Villa team when they had moments and the way they took their chances, so credit to them.
“I didn’t think we started the game bad at all, we had our moments but we just didn’t manage to get a real grip on the game and there was always the threat of Aston Villa’s counters.
“But we created moments and chances, even in the first-half, and in the second-half we built momentum as can happen sometimes. The goal helped with that massively.
“Just at the peak of that momentum we concede the goal and that’s a little bit the story of the game.
“We play against a good side, of course, a very well-coached side, but we’re there in parts. But when you get punished you have to learn from it really quickly.”

Kompany added: “The positive side of it is that you play against a very good side. It’s difficult, I don’t want to just paint a positive picture because we’ve lost a game and I’m very conscious of that.
“But I’m trying to say what we can bottle and say ‘this is what we’re going to continue going with'.
“We played against a very compact, solid side and if you look at the amount of chances we created, I don’t think there are that many sides that create that many chances against Villa.
“They’re a good side and their strength is their counter. They’re also able to pass the ball and connect with their strikers and they are dangerous. In those moments they have enough firepower to punish those teams.”
Foster's goal in the second half saw the South African grab his first goal in the Premier League and Kompany had plenty of praise for the young forward.
“We can’t forget his age, he’s still fairly young. But he’s just continuing what we’ve seen in the entire pre-season.
“He has speed to run in behind, he’s strong to hold the ball up and he’s able to combine with his teammates and able to score a goal as well.
“For him we’re obviously really pleased, but for the team the reward will be the first time we win a game.”
