Manager Vincent Kompany praised his side's patience and defensive efforts after Burnley secured a fifth consecutive win in the Sky Bet Championship, but admits it certainly wasn't an easy task at the bet365 Stadium.
The Clarets snatched all three points in a 1-0 win to move 14 points clear of the play-off spots through Josh Cullen's 61st minute strike, despite a resilient Potters defence doing their best to keep the visitors at bay.
Kompany believes it wasn't the best performance his side have put in this season, but admits he takes just as much joy from 'these type of wins'.
The Burnley boss said: "These wins you can really appreciate, I have been a part of them as a player and I'm sure the goalkeeper, the defenders, everyone will go home knowing how important this win was.
"I prefer the way we won against Birmingham, but winning like this offers us something different.
"If you want to do anything in football you need those types of games and get results in those games.
"It wasn't our best performance on the ball and we had to be patient, the quality of Stoke and we lacked the efficiency and clean enough in the final third.
"But, defensively we were really good, dealt with the long balls and second balls. It wasn't supposed to be an easy game so that's a good win."

On the game, Kompany added: "The key thing for me, in these types of moments, if you invite pressure then I don't think there is many sides who can resist for long.
"But I don't think we invited pressure, every single time the ball went back to the keeper or the centre halves then there was a pressure to make that ball complicated and that can give the advantage to the defenders to go and attack it rather than be on the back foot.
"And that was the key for me to be happy with the performance. We weren't awesome on the ball but we did everything we needed to do to stay solid which was good."
Cullen grabbed his first goal of the season, firing in past Jack Bonham on the hour, becoming the Clarets' 14th different scorer this campaign.
Post-match, Kompany smiled: "I want even more! Well done to Josh, he's worked hard and I'm pleased he's got his goal.
"But I'm pleased for everyone, they are all making these goals happen and tonight it's Josh's turn, so well done to him."
