Following the Clarets 2-0 win over Millwall midweek, Vincent Kompany was pleased with his team's performance and is fully focused on the next challenge.
Talking to the media ahead of Friday's trip to West Bromwich Albion, the Clarets boss spoke about the special atmosphere at Turf Moor in recent games, his plans with transfer deadline day fast approaching and his team's focus on another tough test in Friday evening's opponents.
Kompany on the Millwall win:
“I’ve been encouraged by the wins. I think overall since the start of the season the performances have been there. Physically I think we’ve been there. Friday comes with a big challenge; we need to put in a big shift and be physically robust.
“Since the beginning of the season, we’ve seen well-crafted chances that involved a few players. At times, to get those spaces you have to work the ball into those spaces that’s what we did yesterday.
“It was a brilliant atmosphere. I love to see the kids wearing the shirts, that gives such a party atmosphere to the stadium. When the lads perform, it’s been a real happy place for us at the moment.”
Kompany on squad depth:
“It’s a long season, we’ll need everyone. The more players we have available, of quality, the better it will be for the entire team.
“I do think it would be beneficial for the Championship to allow more substitutions on the bench. It allows more players to get game time, offers the chance to get more players into the game.
“For us now, I think we’re equipped to use those players. The good thing is when you create an environment with competition, it doesn’t matter who plays, you back the players."

Kompany on injuries:
“With Aro, we don’t think it’s very serious. Tomorrow, I want to take a look at how everyone feels. Today is about letting the players recover.
“We just try to win the next game and go from there. Now we reassess, sit with medical, sports science, sit with the players. We try and manage who can go and who can’t. I think that’s a healthy approach for this season."
Kompany on transfer deadline day approaching:
“We won’t make desperate moves. If new players come then we’re happy, if they don’t then that completes our window for us, and we move on. We’ve invested I think wisely so far. Now we’ll see.
“Johann coming back is almost like a new signing, Westy, Twiney when they come back will give us so much more as well.”

Kompany on West Brom:
“I think the season so far has been kind of what everyone predicted. It’s been tight, nobody has run off yet.
“West Brom create a lot of chances, they are willing to put the ball into the box, they’ve got numbers in there. They like many teams, are trying to edge towards everything clicking.
“I knew I wanted to have legs and energy in this team. That’s what I knew. What they’ve done on the ball, we worked towards it, but I didn’t expect it to be consistent so soon. That was true in the last game, but we need to do it at West Brom too.”
Kompany on the Championship table:
“I don’t think it’s clear yet who are going to be at the top or bottom, that’s how close it is. Norwich and West Brom are goal threats, they are both big games. We’ll need to be ready to go and give it a real good go.”
