Vincent Kompany is aware Saturday's visitors Reading will be well prepared opponents ahead of this weekend's Championship clash at Turf Moor.
The Clarets boss spoke to the media ahead of the game, covering the importance of taking it one game at a time and setting targets for the squad.
Kompany on managing expectations:
“I think managing expectations is always about going back to, kind of what we anticipated at the beginning of the season.
"It can’t just change because you’ve had a good run of games, you always have hope to win every game that’s ahead of you but at the start of the season we were just looking to avoid the worst-case scenario.
"We were looking to avoid Sunderland and to rebuild in time and be consistent amongst the top six teams, so the goal hasn’t changed.
“There is an ambition within the club to win every game and that makes it quite easy.”
Kompany on setting targets:
“I think I was very clear about making sure we are in and amongst, I would say the top six by the time that the World Cup is on.
"I didn’t know if we would be two or three points inside the top six or two or three points outside the top six. The main thing for me is to be in and amongst it.
"I feel the team still has lots of improvement ahead, but I think we are where we are now, and we just try to win the next game and we’ll see where we are then.”

Kompany on Jay Rodriguez:
“I want the goals to be shared amongst the squad, for me that’s important. Everybody’s chipped in but Jay Rod’s a special player, he’s a player that no doubt if it wouldn’t have been for his injuries, he would have played in a top four, top six club in England so that quality never goes. He’s fit so I think he’s happy as well.”
Kompany on Reading:
“They [Reading] will have the energy to be compact, it’s a team that defends very well.
"A team that’s got experienced players who are able to decide a game at any given time, that’s what they’ve really done well this season. I’m sure the manager will have prepared them really well.”
Kompany on managing players minutes:
“We don’t have a choice, some decisions you make are common sense, based on age and injuries and some other ones are just imposed on you and with that amount of games, even a little knock sometimes you miss a couple of days of training and then before you know it you’ve got to miss a game.
"We rely on the squad, and in the last ten days I think we’ve used near enough the full squad, and you need that in this league.”
