Vincent Kompany says that the concentration for his side is solely on their next game this weekend at Coventry City, and any feelings of disappointment from the midweek draw against Stoke City have now been put to the back of their minds.
The Clarets chief addressed the media at the Burnley Training Centre on Friday afternoon and discussed moving on quickly, competition within the squad, and a popular face returning to training this week.
Kompany on keeping focused:
“There’s no more reflection needed for us. It [the Stoke draw] is behind us and we’ve spent so much time preparing for this game against Coventry now, it’s matchday minus one.
“We have an entirely focused group which is ready to again and to push on towards Saturday.”
Kompany on the reflection:
“It’s our job. We look back and analyse it then gave discussions, but we also try to bring solutions to the table. We can go on and on about the tactical & technical side of things, but in these moments in games, you just have to have a team able to manage the situations by making the right decisions.

“It comes with experience, and we’ve got a core of experienced players who will help us through those moments, but it’s about the team having experience together. We aren’t the oldest side, and it happens when you’re at this stage of bringing a squad together.”
Kompany on competition for places:
“It’s a close call in many positions, but it’s still the very start. What I wanted to nail down more than anything was how we were going to play in terms of the intensity and quality on the ball.
“That side of it can’t change whether you use one player or another, and I think we’ve done that well in making it clear what we want to do.
“Today the best player in everyone’s eyes is the one that plays, until another does, and I’m still learning about the group every single day, making decisions which will be good for the long-term and not just the short-term. You can go through every position, and we have solid players.”
Kompany on rotation:
“You don’t have a choice in this league unless you have a clear difference between your first 11 and your second 11. This league simply imposes rotations upon you.
“For other teams in higher divisions, it’s common to see a difference for a European game and then again it will change off a Saturday game. For us though, it’s one continuous league and we can’t get too focused on that side of things.

“We will use who we think is best at the time, and pick the strongest team possible to beat the opponent facing us.”
Kompany on Ashley Westwood returning to training:
“In this moment, he’s like a new signing for us. At the start of the season, we were thinking and preparing mentally to expect the fact that he wasn’t going to be available for one single minute this season because of how big an injury it was.
“You can see now though that he’s going to be fine and get back to the high level he can play at. We’re essentially recovering a player who will boost the squad and mentally, we may not have thought about him prior to the start of the season.”
Kompany on the Clarets fans:
“We really play for that [their support]. I put it at the forefront at the start of this season saying that we couldn’t promise results immediately, but the first thing we wanted was a team that they could be proud of.

“I’ve not a moments hesitation that we want to go to Coventry and get three points to give them [the travelling fans] something to be happy about.”
Kompany on Coventry:
“If you have more games left to play than the other teams, then you’re in a false position. They’re trying to re-connect with the form they had last season, and the threat & quality they had in particular.
“For us, it’s another game in the Championship which is unpredictable. They’re going to be a difficult team and we’re working hard to go to the next step.”
