Burnley boss looks ahead to Wednesday night's cup clash

Manager Vincent Kompany is hoping the Turf Moor advantage is used once again on Wednesday night as the Clarets host Fleetwood Town in the Emirates FA Cup but knows the Sky Bet league one side will be a difficult test.

Burnley will be looking to book their spot in the quarter-final of the competition for the first time since 2002, whilst the Cods aim for their first ever last eight place.

Speaking ahead of the tie, two-time FA Cup winner Kompany discussed the significance of the 'special' competition but the importance to not get carried away.

Kompany said: “It’s another game at home and you have to use that advantage, that strength we’ve had at home, so we’re looking forward to this game and we’ll continue doing as well.

“Fleetwood are picking up results as well now. They have a bit of momentum, they’ve found a way to move up the table and they’ll be coming here with a healthy level of confidence.”

“The trophy remains special, it’s the oldest cup competition. There’s an almost intangible glory attached to the trophy that is perhaps much more significant than you’d have in some other countries.

"Let’s not look too far ahead but, for a player, it’s a special cup to hold between your hands. I’m not sure it’s realistic for us but I can only say it’s a very special cup yeah.”

It will be the Burnley's eighth fixture in just four weeks and Kompany admits changes are likely to be made for the cup clash.

But the Clarets chief believes to be successful in a competition like the FA Cup everybody has to play a part and the squad has to be utilised.

“We’ve had a busy schedule so I can’t deny we’d be looking to make a couple of changes. The squad has been our friend so far this season so we wouldn’t expect anything than a performance again.

"I think, naturally, when you have competition in a team everybody has to perform and play their part. There’s no other way. Not just perform in games but in training.

"Every single day you get judged on everything as well. So, I don’t think there’s any pressure to say - go on and score - or - have a clean sheet.

"But there is kind of this knowledge that you have to treat the game seriously and you have to be doing everything you can to have a good performance. That comes naturally with competition.”
