Vincent Kompany was pleased that his side were able to bring the curtain down on a remarkable season with a 3-0 win against Cardiff City, a victory that saw Burnley officially crowned as centurions.
The three points earned against the Bluebirds took the Clarets’ tally to 101 for the season, the first team to break the 100-point barrier in the Sky Bet Championship for nine years.
Speaking post-match, Kompany paid testament to everyone involved in the Clarets’ sterling season and reflected on an afternoon to remember.
“3-0, a clean sheet, we scored goals and had chances too. We’ve won and then we lifted the trophy in the rain, it was the perfect ending to this season.

“Now it’s time to breathe and enjoy! A really special day for all of us, I just couldn’t be happier for the people involved here at the Club.
“Records [like the century of points] are for the fans, but when it’s done, you do remember them. For us to get over 100 points, taking into account the style we’ve adapted to and the turnaround in players that we had is fantastic.
“I think we’ve got here with plenty still left in the tank, which is a nice feeling as a manager. I just want to share this moment, it’s been a tremendous season.
“You have to enjoy every trophy, so for me this one ranks just as high as any other that I’ve won. When you’re a manager, you definitely feel more involved with the group!"
Josh Brownhill opened the scoring on a typically damp day in East Lancashire, while a Scott Twine free-kick brought Burnley’s 98th and final goal of the campaign in all competitions.

The 97th, and sandwiched between those two, came from the boot of Ashley Barnes, who played his last game for the Club to bring an end to a near decade-long stay.
The boss spoke about a ‘perfect ending’ for the striker, who leaves with close to 300 appearances to his name and, including his last, 55 goals.
“I said to him before the game ‘go and write your own script with everything in it that you could have dreamt of’.
“He finishes the season with a goal today, being champions away at Blackburn and with the goal at Middlesbrough when we won promotion. As a script for him, there probably isn’t anything better.
“He’s had three promotions with this club up to the Premier League now, so Barnesy has done everything he needed to do to leave us the way he would have wanted to.
“He’s a legend here, and he’ll always be remembered by us. We will miss his character around the dressing room.”
With thoughts already venturing towards the top flight and next season, Kompany re-enforced just how much the people at the Club matter to him, his staff, and his players.

“At our level, there’s not much better that we could have done this year to be honest, but you always set targets towards what’s realistic for you in the next season, and for us that’s in the next division.
“The reason why I believe we can go and be successful again is because there’s good people here, and in football, that’s rare. It’s about the character of the people here, every single person around the club.
“There’s something here that can get you through difficult games, difficult times, and over certain hurdles. The goal for next year is to make these fans proud and go and have fun in the Premier League.
“By fun, I mean results wise with good performances and good wins. We have a decent blend of players here who still have good progression margins for them to get better, and then in turn we will get better as a team.
“Both eyes are on next season. We’ll go now and have a decent summer, but we’re well prepared for it.”
