Jordan North insists there’s never been a better time to be a Claret after Vincent Kompany’s side lifted the Sky Bet Championship title.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ, who is also a lifelong Burnley fan, played to a packed-out Turf Moor crowd in a carnival-like atmosphere as the Clarets beat Cardiff City 3-0 in a final day triumph.
And having seen the team surpass a century of points with the victory, officially crowned as champions post-match, North reflected on a campaign like no other.
“This is just up there with the best for me. The other promotions were great, and I don’t know what it is, but there’s just something special about this one.
“The players, the style of football we’ve been playing, having Vincent Kompany in charge, it’s been really special all things considered.
“Today summed up the season, and we won the league at Blackburn Rovers, so it doesn’t get much better!"
Accounting for two of their 29 wins in a 46-game campaign, the Clarets did the double over their nearest rivals, scoring four unanswered goals across two meetings.
The first of which ensured Burnley would remain top of the table heading into an enforced break for the FIFA World Cup while the second, just a few weeks ago, saw Kompany’s side secure the title.
Unsurprisingly, just like the rest of the fanbase, those two matches were amongst North’s most memorable this season.
“In November, after we’d been beaten by Sheffield United, we were under pressure then and that day being what it was, it’s a standout moment for sure.
“Then the away game there, that will never ever be forgotten! There’s been some good results throughout though and so many good games.
“It just couldn’t get any better for me. I can’t remember it being this good being a Burnley fan, honestly I can’t. I know we’ve had really good times in the past, but at the moment there’s just something about the Club and being around the Turf.”
And the former ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Here!’ contestant also had some kind words for the departing Ashley Barnes.
Striker to make Norfolk move
The striker netted the second of Burnley’s three goals against the Bluebirds, his 55th in Claret & Blue, to bring the curtain down on a near decade-long stint in BB10.
North added, “As a fan, I absolutely love him, he’s one of my favourite footballers and one of my favourite ever Burnley players.
“Through what I do now, I’ve been lucky enough to meet the players, and he’s just the nicest bloke too. He’s a big family man, a good laugh, and someone that’s always pleasant.
“I wish him all the best, and I’m so glad that he’s gone out on such a high today. He’ll always be a Claret, and he’ll definitely always be loved here at Turf Moor!”
