Interim Head Coach looks ahead to Emirates trip

With a title race in the balance Burnley have a much-talked-about trip to Arsenal ahead of them on Monday night.

Speaking to the media before the clash in the capital, Interim Head Coach Mike Jackson discussed how the team is looking injury wise and said he's told the players to use the noise around the game as an incentive to 'go and thrive'.

TRAINING THIS WEEK

“It’s been a good week; we’ve been prepping for Arsenal.

“Everyone is fit for selection again, apart from Connor who will be with the U21s. He’s getting some game time in that.

“Hannibal we’ll make a call on closer to the time, but he’s come along well.

“The mood after the Villa game was really good. Then as the week goes on, you still get bits as obviously ultimately, we’ve not set out to achieve what we wanted to achieve. So, there’s always that little bit within the week but that’s our job as coaching staff to try and keep the intensity there. We still have to work towards the games and the competition that we’re in. It’s been a good week.”

ARSENAL

“You look at a game like that, and you look at the importance of it, to everyone in the competition. But I think from our point of view, you’ve got to look at it as an opportunity as well. One, to be involved in a game like that. Two, to be really excited about that. And it’s a platform to then go and perform.

“We can’t influence everything that’s going on around it, all the noise. What we can do is we can make sure, like we did against Villa last week, that we’re still taking the competition really seriously and that’s what we’ll do.”

THE NOISE

“It’s like the outcome is already decided in everybody else’s eyes but for us we’ve got to go there with some belief and have a go.

“Personally, it’s an incentive if people write us off. That’s always been my personality and character. In situations like that, for me, go and thrive. Go and thrive in that environment. You work all your career to get to be in that sort of environment, then go and do it.”

PRIVILEGE OF LEADING THE TEAM

“I’m here to do a role which is to get these players ready to compete in these games. We did ok last week, and this is the next one up. We know what’s at stake for everyone around it, but we can’t look at that. We’ve just got to be really professional and finish the season as best as we possibly can.

“When I’m outside on the grass, when I’m working with the players, that’s when I’m happy. It’s a privilege for me to be given that opportunity to try and help the club and the players, and that’s what I’ll do.”
