Acting U23s' boss Michael Jackson admitted he was proud of his side's work ethic and efforts in their Scotland pre-season camp.
The Clarets spent six days based at the University of Stirling, playing friendlies against Rangers' B team and Ayr United's first team.
And despite suffering defeats in both, Jackson was pleased with how his side signed off against partner club Ayr.
“I was delighted with how the lads finished the trip at Ayr. I was very pleased," said Jackson, who has been placed in interrim charge of the U23 squad following Steve Stone's elevation to the first-team set-up.
“We spoke about it before the game, the physical test that was going to face them.
“And it was a bit of a wobble to start, but after that I thought they were excellent against a strong Ayr side.
“I’m really proud of how they went about it, considering the amount of work they’ve put in last week. It was a great way to finish the trip.”
After conceding two early goals to an Ayr side already into their competitive fixtures, the Clarets hit back through a third goal in two games from skipper Rob Harker.
And despite not being able to find an equaliser in a 2-1 defeat, Burnley did enough at Somerset Park to earn some reward against one of their partner clubs.
They did so with a young squad, which contained five first-year professionals and six trialists.
And Jackson had praise for everyone involved throughout the camp - with the promise of plenty more to come.
“This is just the start. It’s a young group, with trialists amongst it as well, but it’s certainly something to build on," he added.
“It was great that we were allowed to go up to Scotland and it’s been nice to get the group together on a day-to-day basis.
“They worked really hard all week, and I think the effort and performance against Ayr will have lifted them a little bit more and they will feel good about themselves going into this next week.
“They put a bright shift in and worked hard throughout the trip and for me, it actually represented Burnley and what Burnley as a club is about, you could see that."
The Clarets' U23s continue their pre-season schedule on Wednesday night against Lancaster City at the Giant Axe (7:45pm), with full coverage on Twitter (@ClaretsAcademy).
