Burnley Football Club are proud to launch a new, dedicated Matchday Safeguarding Team who will be on hand at Turf Moor to support the safety and wellbeing of all fans and supporters at every home game, with a particular focus on the experience of women and girls.

The highly trained team of staff are available to support, listen and address any safeguarding concerns, helping to make the matchday experience as enjoyable and safe as possible.

Our Safeguarding Stewards are here to:

· Provide a safe, confidential space for women and girls to report any concerns about their safety or wellbeing while attending matches.

· Respond swiftly to incidents of harassment, inappropriate behaviour, or abuse within the stadium.

· Offer emotional support to anyone who feels unsafe, anxious, or in need of assistance during their time at Turf Moor.

· Assist in reporting incidents of misconduct or safeguarding issues and ensure that they are dealt with in an appropriate and sensitive manner.

· Help to ensure that facilities and stadium spaces are inclusive, secure, and welcoming for all, especially women and girls.

· Work alongside the current and existing Stewarding operation, building additional resilience in relation to Safeguarding and Wellbeing.

Our Safeguarding Stewards will be present at all home matches, making themselves available both inside and outside of the stadium, on the concourses and in the stands. The team will be easily identifiable with their pink Hi-Vis vests and welcoming smiles – please say hello when you see them!

Safeguarding at Burnley Football Club

The introduction of the Safeguarding Stewards forms part of the Club’s ongoing work in ensuring women and girls feel safe and comfortable at Turf Moor.

We recently conducted a Female Fan survey, which was sent to female season ticket holders, to gauge their thoughts and experiences of a matchday. In addition to the launch of the Safeguarding Stewards, feedback from the survey has also led the Club to set about making improvements to areas including female facilities such as stadium toilets.

If you ever need assistance on matchdays or just need someone to talk to, our Safeguarding Team are here to help. Feel free to reach out to them anytime during the game either by speaking to them directly or by asking the nearest steward to request their assistance. You can also use the Report line by texting ‘report’ to 622777 and then completing the form.

Together we are making your Turf Moor a safer and more enjoyable experience!
