Based in West London, the club was founded in 1886 with the merging of two teams from the local area - ‘Christchurch Rangers’ & ‘St Jude’s’.
Turning professional three years later, the Hoops would go on to enter the Southern Football League, playing out the first ever Charity Shield match against Football League champions Manchester United, losing 4-0 in a replay.
Joining the Football League’s Third Division in 1920, QPR frequently jumped between leagues before becoming the first ever Third Division club to win the League Cup in 1967 when they beat West Brom in the competition’s final. That was also the first ever League Cup final to be held at Wembley.
Reaching the top flight for the first time the year after, the Rs would go onto miss out on the First Division title by one point in 1975/76, playing in Europe not long after without any huge success.
Involved in the Premier League for its first four years, the club didn’t make it back until 2011 when promotion from the Championship was achieved, winning the title under Neil Warnock.
Manchester City’s opponents for the famous ‘Aguero’ moment, QPR survived that day. They were to be relegated the year after though, and despite bouncing back via the play-offs at the first time of asking, another relegation followed in 2014/15.
Rangers have not reached the top flight since, and parted ways with Mark Warburton at the end of the last campaign. They are now managed by Steven Gerrard’s former assistant at Rangers and Aston Villa, Michael Beale.
