Joining the Norfolk & Suffolk amateur league upon their founding in 1902, Norwich City were deemed a professional organisation by the FA in 1905 and elected to the Southern League.
The Club moved to Carrow Road, which has since become its permanent home, in 1934 and the Canaries were to win their first trophy – a League Cup – in 1962.
Ten years later they reached the top flight for the first time, but were relegated two years later.
They again ‘yo-yoed’ between the top and second tier for a stint, winning the League Cup but being relegated in the 1984-85 season.
Qualifying for the UEFA Cup, Norwich famously beat Bayern Munich in the mid-90s. Since then, though, there have been plenty of ups and downs, including back-to-back promotions from both League One and the Championship under Paul Lambert.
The Canaries have fluctuated since 2018/19 and have spent the last two years in the Championship.
Having finished 13th in 2022/23 they pushed for promotion last year, finishing 6th but losing their two-legged play-off semi-final against Leeds United.
Manager David Wagner was relieved of his duties less than 24 hours after the second leg, with Johannes Hoff Thorup joining from FC Nordsjaelland as his replacement last month.

Played for both:
Kyle Lafferty - Born in Northern Ireland, Lafferty signed a youth apprenticeship deal with Burnley in 2004. His first team debut came under Steve Cotterill in 2005 and after a loan spell with Darlington, he scored his first senior Clarets goal against Luton Town in 2006. The striker then spent four years with Rangers before spells abroad with Sion and Palermo, returning to the UK with Norwich in 2014. He was unable to make a real impact at Carrow Road, being loaned out for two of his three years there and since leaving Norfolk he has travelled the world, playing for clubs in various countries including Norway, Italy, and Cyprus. Lafferty is currently playing in Scotland with Johnstone Burgh.
Ade Akinbiyi – Norwich is where Akinbiyi started his career, progressing from a traineeship through to the first team. During his time in Norfolk he played against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in the UEFA Cup, in addition to regular minutes in the Premier League. After leaving permanently in 1997 he spent the next eight years moving from club to club before arriving in Burnley for the first of two spells with us. In total he managed 109 league appearances for the Clarets, netting 26 times. After leaving he spent time in Houston and alter Wales before retiring in 2015.
Mo Camara – Starting his career in France, Camara moved to England to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2000. A starter in his first two seasons with the Midlanders, a knee injury affected his third campaign and he signed for Burnley in 2003. The left-back spent two years in Lancashire and played most of our games, scoring his only goal to help knock Aston Villa out of the League Cup in October 2004. After leaving Turf Moor the Guinea international signed for Celtic and later joined Derby County, from whom he spent the 2008-09 season on loan at Norwich.
