Luca Koleosho can’t hide his delight that following a lengthy injury, he’s now back training for pre-season ahead of the Clarets 2024/25 Championship season.
The 19-year-old has been on the sidelines since December as he recovered from a knee injury but in a positive step forward, he’s now back with his teammates as the squad prepare for the new season.
“I’m back with the whole team, so I do all the sessions and everything but because I’ve just come back - whilst I’m able to do the full sessions, they’re also controlling me to build me up. But I’m with the team, I’m part of all the training and I hope to be able to play in the games and everything like that, so it’s been good.”
The Club’s medical staff underwent a seven-month recovery period with the winger, which included a stint at a medical rehab facility in Miami and whilst he did keep his spirits up, he's happiest being reunited with his teammates on the grass.
“I’m excited to be back because I haven’t played since December and now it’s July. I had to work through the whole process, so now that I’m able to be back on the field with my teammates, with a new season, it’s really exciting. I’m excited to start playing again.”
With several of the players now back in the building, including those who had spent time out on loan, how's the mood been in the group?
“Yes, with new people coming in, people moving around, I think the vibe has still been really good and positive.
“Anybody that’s new has integrated well, and we also have some of the loan players coming back, so we’re just cracking jokes at the table and on the field! It’s been really nice to be a part of.
“Oba, CJ, everybody is just enjoying all these moments, especially because it’s pre-season, it’s long so we need characters like that to keep everybody’s morale up.”
After some time off over the summer, how are the group finding training?
“Everyone understands how important their fitness is, being on the ball and obviously we’re not where we’re at currently, it’s all new and fresh, but I mean everyday we’ve all been improving. We’ve been training really well and really hard, so I think it’s just a process. Where we are right now it won’t be where we’ll be at the beginning of the season. Even though we’re playing well now, we’ll be even better because we’ll be able to gel more, everybody will be able to understand each other more. I think we need that in pre-season but so far everything’s been good!”
The Clarets Championship campaign kicks off on Monday 12th August at Kenilworth Road and Koleosho is looking forward to playing his part in what he hopes will be a successful season for the Club.
“I’m excited just to play to be completely honest. I’m not too focussed on who we’re playing against, I’m more focussed on - it’s kind of cliché - but just taking it one game at a time. It’s more like whoever is in front of us I just want to play, go out against them, play as well as I can and win as much as possible so that by next July, we’re in pre-season training for being back in the Premier League.”
And how is he feeling about making his long-awaited return to Turf Moor and being reunited with the Clarets fans?
“It’s been a while! I’m excited to be back playing there, see the reception and hopefully the first week that we’re there we’ll be able to give them a win and make it very special.”
