Summer signing Václav Hladký enjoyed a positive Clarets debut on Saturday afternoon as the Scott Parker's side stormed to victory in a 5-0 win at Turf Moor. With a clean sheet to boot, speaking after the game the Czech keeper said it was a brilliant result.
“It feels really good, we didn’t expect that. We certainly worked on it to get the win, we had to go through some difficulties in the first half but at the end of the day the result in brilliant.”
And how was he feeling with a clean sheet secured?
“Yes, it’s a clean sheet, I think if you get a clean sheet, you’re always happy no matter what. But the Championship is a tough competition, and you have to always work hard to get the right result which I think we’ve done today.”
Five goals against the Bluebirds saw fantastic full-time scenes with the fans on their feet and a memorable start for the 33-year-old.
“Absolutely fantastic, I couldn’t wish for a better start for me. Obviously, it’s a few months since the last game, at the end of the last season, so it was absolutely brilliant.”
The shot-stopper arrived in Lancashire in mid-July and is delighted with the warm welcome he's received at the Club.
“It’s a great bunch of people, not just the players but all the staff members, around the training ground, around the stadium. It was a warm welcome for me, it’s been brilliant.”
Settling in well and bringing with him a wealth of experience earned praise from Head Coach Scott Parker after the game, who said he was impressed by his composure and ability to know when to calm things down and when to play.
“I think it’s an expectation from me to bring those things to the team and we’ve been working on it through pre-season.
“As a team and with the Gaffer it takes time to get things together and we definitely can improve on certain things, but I think we are in a good way.
“Today’s result is absolutely fantastic, and we can’t expect that we’re going to win every game 5-0 but there’s still plenty of things through the game where you can be much more comfortable and bring the calmness in certain moments. There’s always some room to improve.”
Next up at Turf Moor is Blackburn Rovers at the end of the month, has Hladký spoken to his teammates about what the derby means to the town and fans?
“Yes, first and foremost they did, they told me. I think it’s a big derby and no matter where you play you always know those derbies. Everyone is buzzing for that game, me included.”
