Taylor Harwood-Bellis was happy to have netted his first Clarets goal, and a first ever senior league goal, in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Preston North End at Deepdale.
The centre-back headed home from Josh Brownhill’s corner 10 minutes in but saw his effort cancelled out shortly after, with it remaining a draw come the full-time whistle.
Post-match, he spoke about wanting to add more goals to his game, taking the positives from a point against the Lilywhites, and re-grouping ahead of Saturday’s home game with Bristol City.
Harwood-Bellis on the game as a whole:
“I didn’t feel like we were under pressure. Obviously their goal goes in and it’s gutting, but I thought the boys were good. It’s a bit of a bitter feeling, but that can be expected in a game like this [if you don’t get the win].
“I think you can say it about almost every game we’ve played so far this season, it’s another game tonight where we’ve got to be putting away the chances we’ve created, but we’ll re-group now.
“We’ve got another big game on Saturday where we can hopefully score a few goals in front of our home fans.”
Harwood-Bellis on his header:
“It’s been a long time coming. I’ve had the chances over the last couple of seasons and just not put the ball away, but hopefully that starts a run now and I can get a few of them under my belt.”
Harwood-Bellis on Jordan Beyer’s Clarets debut & being part of a talented squad:
“He’s a good player, he’s come in and settled in straight away. He’s obviously a good player, good on the ball and in his defending.
“You can say that about everyone though really in this team, everyone in every position is really good. We’ve got two teams really that we could put out that would be really good ones.
“The squad’s very talented with young & hungry players. We’ve still got senior players here as well to help us progress under the new manager. You see it every day in training that the standards are really high, and we’ve just got to keep pushing now.”
Harwood-Bellis on focus:
“[The Championship]’s very tight, we’ve just got to focus on ourselves – keep pushing, keep working hard in training, keep working the ball and keep trying to create the chances to score goals.
“We saw at Wigan away we can go on and score four or five, but if you can’t get the ball in the back of the net, then you make sure you don’t lose, and we’ve done that tonight.”
Harwood-Bellis on Saturday’s game against Bristol City & wanting to reward the Clarets supporters:
“We’re hoping to score a few goals in front of the home fans and satisfy them. I think they’ll be satisfied with the way we’ve been performing, but tonight it’s just we’ve not managed to score the goal [to win the game].
“It’ll come, it’s like that in the Championship. We know the goals will come with the amount of the ball we have.
“[The fans] are brilliant. I felt it as soon as I first came and saw it at Huddersfield away. From then on, they’ve been the best I’ve seen.”
