Both Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Jordan Beyer were pleased to get more match action in Tuesday night’s U21 friendly between England and Germany at Bramall Lane.
The Young Lions ran out 3-1 winners with Harwood-Bellis captaining the side, and Beyer coming off the bench midway through the second half for his country.
The two defenders spoke to the Clarets media post-match, reflecting on the game, how each other fared, and looked ahead to getting back to action with the Club.
The Pair on the Game:
Harwood-Bellis:
“I thought we did well up against a tough team. In the first half, we could’ve done better, but in the second half we came out quick which is what we intended to do. We showed our quality in getting the two goals.”
Beyer:
“It was a good opportunity for me to get some playing time and to get on the field enjoying playing football. We’ve been a bit unfortunate with the result having played well, especially in the first half, but England used their chances well.

“They scored one directly after half time and then we didn’t get to play the game we wanted to play.
“It was a tough day for us but I think we can be proud because we’ve seen that we can play against some of the best in the world and the best in Europe, we don’t need to be afraid of them.”
The Pair on Playing for their Countries:
Harwood-Bellis:
“I enjoy playing for my country, every minute of it, and I put 100% in every time I get to play for England. I love it.”
Beyer:
“I felt good on the pitch, it was really fun to play with the team, it’s always an honour to play for your country. It was just good for me to play in these two games."
The Pair on Each Other’s Performances:
Harwood-Bellis:
“Jordan’s a really good player. We saw it in training when he first came, and he showed his quality again tonight. I think we’ll be playing together quite a bit, he’s really good to play with and a really good lad as well.”

Beyer:
“He [Taylor] played really well. He’s the captain of England’s U21s and being born in 2002, that statement is enough said. He plays with such a great confidence, and I look forward to playing next to him for Burnley.
“We spoke really quickly [at full time] about how everything was, and we’ll see each other on Thursday back at the Club where we can talk a bit more about the game.”
Harwood-Bellis & England U21 manager Lee Carsley on the defender’s leadership:
Harwood-Bellis:
“It’s something I strive to be in every group I’m a part of, a leader in the group, and obviously the captaincy here means a lot to me. Wearing the armband and leading this group of lads is something I really enjoy."
Carsley:
“I thought Taylor was good tonight. Like a lot of these young players, he’s growing into being a leader and that will be the next step for him because he’s getting better at that.
“He’s a great example in training, a different kind of leader in terms of not being a ranter and raver. In the first half, some of the positions he took up and some of the balls that he played, he’s very good in possession. We’re lucky to have him.”

Beyer on focus switching back to the Clarets:
“It’s always an honour to play for your country but I’m also very happy to get back to the main business, back to the league and back to Burnley.
“I’ve felt really comfortable the first few weeks and I just can’t wait to get back with the lads there. Hopefully I’ll be out on the pitch on Saturday [at Cardiff] too.”
