Lizzy Hamer was unsurprisingly delighted with Burnley Women’s performance following Wednesday night’s 9-0 victory over AFC Fylde at the County Ground, Leyland.
Hamer kick started the rout early on, heading a pinpoint Milie Ravening cross past Coasters ‘keeper Liz Craven for her second goal of the season.
It was a third straight win and extended the Clarets’ unbeaten run to five, meaning Burnley now sit 2nd in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League.
Speaking after the full-time whistle, she said: “I really enjoyed it! I think it was a good performance and it was obviously good to get that many goals.
“The fact that the goals came from a range of scorers is a positive for the group too.”
Burnley started the game quickly, enjoying the majority of the possession and creating several chances before Hamer broke the deadlock after just 12 minutes.
“I don’t score many headers”, she continued.
“Millie put a good cross into me at the back post and as I saw it coming in, I just thought I’d try and send it back across goal - thankfully it came off.”

Hamer, who played on the left of the three behind striker Laura Elford, was given the opportunity to captain the side.
Of the experience, she said: “It’s a pleasure to have been given the armband and led the team out.
“I don’t think being captain changes the way I play – I just continue to work hard.”
Having been behind Nottingham Forest for a period the Clarets have now reclaimed 2nd spot with both teams now having 17 games under their belt.
Does that change the team’s mentality ahead of the season run in?
“I don’t think so to be honest”, Hamer continued.
“We take every game as it comes and want to win every time we step out onto the pitch, so I don’t think it changes anything.
"It’s obviously a nice position to be in but we’re just aiming to go again on Sunday.”

This afternoon’s opponents Huddersfield Town are fighting against relegation and currently sit below the dotted line.
With the quick turn around from AFC Fylde in the week, Hamer explained what the focus has been and how they have prepared for the Terriers.
“It’s mainly rest and recovery”, she said.
“We’ll obviously get details on board from Bex and her team but as players, we’re making sure we’re recovering properly as we’ve got a lot of games in quite a short space of time. We’ll be ready to go on Sunday. “
Kick-off at the Anchor Ground in Darwen (BB3 0BB) is 2pm on Sunday 7th April and entry is free for everybody.
