Gudmundsson excited for Saturday's Turf return

Johann Berg Gudmundsson is enjoying the atmosphere in the Burnley camp as we approach the final four games of the season.

Speaking to the media ahead of Burnley's clash with QPR this Saturday, the Clarets number 7 is focussed on finishing the season on a high.

“It’s been really good [the atmosphere], we did it quite early [got promoted] as well, so it’s been a bit weird that we have quite a lot of games left. However, when we got promoted, we got a little bit of time to celebrate but then we had the Sheffield United game as well which was fantastic to win at home. Now it’s all about winning the title, we know we’re one win away from that so that’s our focus.”

When asked if there is a hunger to get the title done on Saturday, Gudmundsson added: “Definitely, Turf Moor has been a tough place for the opposition to come to and we’re going to keep that going on Saturday. We want to win the title, it would cap off a perfect season for us if we do that, especially at home as well.”

Saturday's opponents QPR currently sit 21st in the table, which, with so much at stake at this stage of season makes it a difficult test for the home side.

“Yes, I mean every game, the opposition are going to give us some problems, but we just have to make sure that we think of ourselves, that we play our game. We know they’re playing for quite a lot as well, so we just have to manage the game as well as possible and concentrate on us. We know if we play up to the standards, we’ve been doing we can go into that game confident that we’re going to get the three points.”

Following securing promotion at Middlesbrough earlier this month, Gudmundsson was asked if he believes the team can step up to the Premier League.

“I mean that’s far away; we know we’ve got a lot of great players in the squad that still haven’t played in the Premier League, but they’ve definitely got the potential to play in the Premier League. However, that’s a long time away, we’re just concentrating on the Championship and finishing that off. A good summer holiday and then we crack on with the Premier League.”

Gudmundsson has featured for the Clarets heavily this season and was full of praise for manager Vincent Kompany and his staff.

“Well, he’s kept me on the field so that’s a part! I’ve been fit most part of the season, that’s been the most important thing for me. I’ve played more in midfield, I used to be on the wing more so that’s another different thing but I’m confident in any position he puts me in. Just a different style of football, a different way of thinking about football and yes, it’s been absolutely brilliant."

Gudmundsson signed for Burnley from Charlton in the summer of 2016 and has seen significant change at the Club during his time here and since the beginning of the season.

“In the beginning of the season we didn’t really know what was going to happen, a lot of changes at the Club, a lot of players going out, players coming in, so it was a bit of an unknown. It’s been absolutely amazing, the staff have been fantastic, the players who have come in have been fantastic as well. Everything clicked and as we’ve shown this season, we are the best team in the league.”
