Winger nets two assists in thrilling 4-0 victory

Johann Berg Gudmundsson enjoyed a great game in Saturday afternoon's win against Huddersfield Town, assisting Connor Roberts and Josh Brownhill who both scored in the 4-0 victory.

Speaking after the game, the Icelandic said: "It was a good game, obviously a lot of ball possession for us and that’s what we like. I thought maybe first half we were a bit sloppy on giving them a few shots on target which we’re not happy about but 4-0 in the end is a good day’s work and two assists for me so I’m quite happy.”

The winger created the most chances in the game, which he was pleased to hear post-match.

“Yeah definitely, I mean I want to add to my goal tally as well but as long as you’re contributing with assists or goals I’m happy to help the team.

“We know it was tough against them, a lot of men v men, I think one of them guys was just following me all around the pitch, so that’s something new for us, but yes we just have to work through it and we found ways to score goals and we’re happy with that.”

While the Clarets sit top of the Championship table, Gudmundsson believes it's important to not get carried away and insists the best thing to do is to take it each game at a time.

“It’s always a boring answer, it’s game by game you can’t do anything else. You only control the next game, we prepare as much as we can. It’s Blackpool, or actually Fleetwood in the cup, we want to have a good cup run as well. Then it’s onto Blackpool in the league, so yeah as I said boring but game to game!”

There's plenty of excitement around the Lancashire side though, and in addition to the league, there's a Quarter Final FA Cup tie up for grabs should the team progress in Wednesday night's clash with Fleetwood Town.

“Definitely [it's exciting], as I said we want to go into every game with that mentality to go and win. The FA Cup is a massive competition and we want to go as far as possible. Fleetwood on Wednesday, we just concentrate on that and hopefully go through.”

Finally, the Clarets number 7 signed a contract extension last month until the summer of 2024 with the option of a further year, and is loving life in Claret and Blue.

“Yes definitely [I'm enjoying it], I mean Vinny came in with fresh ideas, I think that was something that was needed for the Club and yeah I’m just happy to play as much minutes as possible on the pitch and try to enjoy every minute.”
