Defender Maxime Estève jokingly claimed his first goal for the Club in Tuesday night's 2-1 away win at Cardiff City could be a Goal of the Season contender!

The France U21 international hammered home from close range from Zian Flemming's header and the centre-back was more than happy to score his first for the Clarets and hopes to contribute with more goals going forward.

Speaking post-match in Wales, Estève smiled: "I think it's maybe a goal of the season contender? I'm only joking, I am so happy to score my first goal for this beautiful Club.

"It means a lot to me to score my first goal here and hopefully now I can help the team with some more goals."

Captain Josh Brownhill opened the scoring in the 19th minute, with Estève then doubling Burnley's lead 20 minutes later, before Scott Parker's side conceded a first league goal since before Christmas thanks to Yousef Salech’s header before the break.

Despite the remarkable defensive clean sheet record coming to an end, Estève admitted that three points and a reaction from Saturday's defeat to Preston was the main aim in Cardiff.

"We wanted to keep the clean sheet record, but this is life and if we concede a goal it's not the end of the world, it's just a goal.

"They play well, they are a good team but it was important there was a reaction after Preston and honestly I'm very happy tonight with getting the three points."
