Burnley Football Club confirms the funeral arrangements for Willie Irvine, a cherished figure in the Club’s history. Willie’s contribution to Burnley, both on and off the pitch, left a lasting impression on teammates, supporters, and the wider football community.
Willie will be driven past Turf Moor at approximately 1:30pm on Thursday 14th August. A funeral service will follow, taking place at 2pm at St John's Church, Worsthorne.
Family, friends, and supporters are invited to gather at the Bay Horse pub in Worsthorne after the service.
Willie left an indelible mark on Burnley Football Club, not only through his remarkable achievements on the pitch but also through his warmth and dedication off it. As the post-war record holder for league goals in a season with 29 goals, he amassed a total of 97 goals in 148 appearances for the Clarets, cementing his place in the Club’s history.
After his playing career, Willie continued to serve the Club with the same passion, welcoming supporters as a Matchday hospitality host, leading tours around Turf Moor and sharing stories that brought the history and spirit of Burnley FC to life for countless fans. His generosity, knowledge, and love for the Club ensured that he remained a cherished figure among all who crossed his path, leaving a legacy that will be remembered with admiration and affection.
