Lyle Foster got his Clarets goal tally off to a start at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon, netting his first of the season against Wigan Athletic.
The South African striker rifled his shot past Wigan’s Amos, after being well placed to latch onto fellow substitute Michael Obafemi’s pass.
Reflecting on the performance after the game, Foster said: “Well first of all I thought we played a very good game today, we were very dominant in everything, in every phase of play. Watching the game from the bench I could see that the boys were exerting themselves well.
“We came with a game plan, and I think the early goal helped us as well and progressing through that it was very good today.”
Nathan Tella secured another brace of the campaign on the day and Foster is learning a lot from his teammate.
“Me coming in he’s one of the players that I look to, how he prepares, how he organises himself before a game. I learn from him as well and I think he’s having a very good season, all credit to him.
“I think we should keep going and reach for more and more points.”
When asked what he remembers of the ball hitting the net he replied: “The celebration to be fair!
“I just remember coming on, I had a chance earlier on and shot, it just went a bit wide and I was kind of thinking to myself when would the first one come. I saw Anass play the ball over to Oba [Obafemi] and it dropped nicely and I just thought I’d meet it as hard as I could and luckily for me it went in the back of the net. So, yes I’m very happy to get the first goal but this is just the start and I need to work hard to continue pushing for more.
“I felt pure joy, finally happy that it went in, happy to celebrate with the crowd at Turf Moor and feel the love and joy from my teammates, so perfect, perfect day for me.”
Delighted with his goal and the three points, Foster had been in touch with his family members following the final whistle.
“I’ve spoken to my girlfriend and my mother, my sister and my dad’s in the stadium so a lovely day again to share this moment with him. The rest of my family and friends back home were watching the game as well so yeah, a good day for me, a really good day.”
Foster, who joined the Club in January, has settled in well and praised his welcoming teammates.
“I feel very welcome, I feel it’s a very hardworking team and a team with a great attitude. For me coming in it’s been a very easy adjustment off the field, the people are lovely to work with, everyone’s very kind. On the field, everyone is motivating and pushing you so that’s a big positive that I came into the group, and I was immediately accepted as one of the guys. It makes it a lot easier in the working environment, I’m just enjoying it, enjoying every moment.
Clarets return to Turf for penultimate home game of campaign with Rs visit
“Coming in in January I think is always difficult when the team is already on the trajectory and trying to find a place but I think that the staff and the players have put me in well. I’m still finding my feet but definitely feeling at home already, feeling welcome. Like I said it’s great to be with the guys and hopefully we can go for more.”
When asked how he's adapted to the fast paced Championship, he added: “There’s definitely more to learn. I’m trying to get up to speed with it, it’s a very different game but I feel like I’m getting there but definitely loads loads more to learn.”
The support for the forward from South Africa has been overwhelming, something Foster is only too aware of.
“I feel the love and the support from people back home and for me it’s an honour and a blessing. I think every day, that I’m in this position and I can go forward and inspire so many people back home and get the love that I do. It’s really just an honour playing here and getting to showcase my talent in for me the biggest country in the world football wise.”
Finally, despite the high of another thrilling home win, Foster and the team's focus is fully on Wednesday night's visit to Hull City.
“It’s very very important. I think like I said we’re on a good trajectory and we’re doing well. The manager said that we can’t be on an emotional rollercoaster during games. This game is off now and we need to focus on the next one, and the next one is Hull City, and we need to win that game. After that we focus on the next game, so yes we take it one game at a time and hopefully we can reach our objectives this season.”
