Points shared at a blustery Fleetwood

A very young Burnley squad fought well for a share of the points in a match dominated by the weather on the Fylde coast.

Both sides were tested by the conditions at Fleetwood Town’s training ground, with strong winds and frequent showers not allowing for any fluidity in the game.

It was Fleetwood Town who opened the scoring in the 8th minute.

After good work down the right David Animasaun found space at close range, giving Connor Edwards no chance with a shot into the bottom corner.

Fleetwood Town were forced into a change of goalkeeper just 19 minutes into the match. An injury to Cam Graham meant he was replaced by Oliver Bellizia.

Burnley had the ball in the back of the net just before the half hour mark but Albert Blackie’s effort was ruled out by the referee for a foul in the build up.

Chances on goal were few and far between thanks to an almost gale force wind at Poolfoot Farm as Burnley went in at half-time a goal down.

After a strong start to the second half Burnley were level again on 53 minutes.

Great work and a great cross down the left hand side by Olly Pimlott was finished off well from six yards by the trialist.

The Clarets pushed hard for a second, creating decent chances. Captain Lucas Wane could have won it with almost the last kick of the game, his effort fizzing just wide of the post.

Tony Philliskirk was pleased overall with his side’s performance: “It was blowing a gale and lashing down with rain so it was ironic that both teams scored when they were playing against the wind! We actually played better against the wind.

“I was a bit disappointed with them first half, but they responded well second half. They deserved to get back and in the end we could have even nicked a win.”
