Seven first-team players are currently out on loan across the Premier League, Football League, and Belgian Pro League.
Centre back Luke McNally took the headlines this week, earning himself a spot in the Championship Team of the Week having kept two clean sheets, including one against Matt Lowton’s Huddersfield Town.
Here’s a round-up of how all seven have fared over the last seven days.
CJ Egan-Riley (Hibernian)
With Hibs in action for the first time since mid-February, Egan-Riley played 79 minutes in their 4-1 win at Livingston on Saturday.
Lee Johnson’s side are now unbeaten in five, winning four of those.
This week’s game(s): WED – Rangers (H)
Dara Costelloe (Bradford City)
Versatile attacker Costelloe enjoyed a double winning week with the Bantams, who are firmly in the Sky Bet League Two play-off mix.
The Irishman was withdrawn in the 90th minute of Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Gillingham before playing 68 minutes back at Valley Parade on Saturday as City struck twice in time added on at the end of the game to beat Colchester United by the same scoreline.
This week’s game(s): TUE – Walsall (A) SAT – Newport County (A)
Enock Agyei (K.V. Mechelen)
Teenager Agyei, who joined Burnley in January and headed straight out on loan, endured a week of mixed fortunes with Steven Defour’s Mechelen.
‘De Kakkers’ reached the Belgian Cup final on Tuesday, winning 1-0 away at Zulte Waregem in a last-four tie. Agyei was an unused substitute in that game, and yesterday came on for the last nine minutes of a 5-0 defeat at Royal Antwerp as league action returned.
This week’s game(s): SAT – St Truiden (H)
Luke McNally (Coventry City)
McNally’s time with Coventry has so far been successful, and for a second time in just three weeks, he’s earned a spot in the Championship Team of the Week.
The accolade came after two clean sheets in four days as the Sky Blues drew 0-0 at Preston North End on Tuesday night and went on to win 4-0 away at Huddersfield Town come Saturday. Against the Terriers, McNally faced fellow Clarets loanee Matt Lowton.
This week’s game(s): SAT – Hull City (H)
Matt Lowton (Huddersfield Town)
Like McNally, full-back Lowton played the full 90 minutes in the pair’s meeting at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.
The 4-0 defeat, their second in a row, leaves Huddersfield bottom of the table with just one win in 11 since the turn of the year.
This week’s game(s): TUE – Bristol City (H) & SAT – West Bromwich Albion (A)
Will Norris (Peterborough United)
Goalkeeper Norris is in the business of trying to chase down the play-off pack in Sky Bet League One with Peterborough.
He kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw at home against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night, playing with 10 men for over half-an-hour. On Saturday though, the Posh were beaten 1-0 at table-toppers Sheffield Wednesday.
This week’s game(s): TUE – Shrewsbury Town (H) & SAT – Cheltenham Town (H)
Wout Weghorst (Manchester United)
Heading into the week on the back of a Carabao Cup triumph, striker Weghorst played the full game at Old Trafford on Wednesday night as United beat West Ham United 3-1 to reach the last-eight of the Emirates FA Cup.
The Dutch international grabbed an assist in that game, but then played 58 minutes at Anfield yesterday as Liverpool ran out 7-0 winners in Premier League action. That was United’s heaviest ever defeat to their rivals.
This week’s game(s): THURS – Real Betis (H – UEFA Europa League) & SUN – Southampton (H)
