Defender to join up with Scotland U19s

The Academy is celebrating news of a first international call-up for young defender Oli Pimlott, who links up with Scotland U19s for a training camp this week.

Pimlott, who turned 18 last month, has regularly played for Burnley’s U21s group in the last few months of the season and impressed with his performances.

Although born and raised in Bramhall, a village in Stockport, the defender qualifies for Scotland through his family heritage.

“My family and I were buzzing when we got the news,” he said.

“I knew that there was a scout at a couple of my games, and we’d get feedback from that.

“The whole of my mum’s side of our family is Scottish and live in Aberdeen. They’re all really proud and can’t wait to see me in the kit.

“I’ve seen the squad list and there are some really good players on there, so I’m looking forward to testing myself.”

Having joined the Clarets at U14s level, Pimlott signed a two-year scholarship agreement ahead of the 2023/24 season.

As a first-year scholar he would switch between left-back and left midfield under U18s Manager Tony Philliskirk, but this season he has found himself at left-back more often.

Pimlott played an important part in the U18s winning the Professional Development League North and stepped up to make 14 U21s appearances in the second half of the campaign.

He continued: “It’s been a great season for me. As an U18s team we were able to win the league, and I was given a few opportunities to play up for the U21s too.

“The U18s win was a massive achievement. All the lads are still buzzing off it because we deserved it from working hard all year.

“At U21s level the intensity and tactics are a lot different. Weirdly you get more time on the ball, but then less time when the opposition press.”

Scotland U19s are due to spend three days together in Dundee, led by Head Coach Neil MacFarlane and his assistants Chris Burke and Dougie Anderson.

The young Scots will face England, Latvia and Lithuania in 2025/26 UEFA U19 Euro qualifiers later this year.
