Forward is well prepared for August start date

Burnley Women forward Laura Elford is excited for the start of the new FA Women’s National League North season.

A January signing in the previous campaign, the Clarets striker is taking part in her first pre-season with the Club.

After she helped her teammates to a third-place finish in the league last time out, the 27-year-old enjoyed some downtime in post-season but says the team are back and ready to go.

“I think we’ve had a really good start to pre-season after a little bit of downtime in the summer.

“We did three weeks of running and gym programmes in the off-season so when we came back in the other week, we were already sort of ready to go.

“So yeah, pre-season has been good, and we’ve played quite well so we’re definitely looking forward to starting the season and getting going now.”

The Claret Women learnt of their 2023/24 fixtures earlier this week, as they travel to Liverpool Feds in an August season opener.

And the Burnley forward, who netted five times in all competitions for the Clarets last campaign, hopes that they will get off to a strong start in the FA Women’s National League North.

“I thought initially that we had a very busy September, as we play three of probably the biggest teams in the league, all in one month, in Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Newcastle.

“So, I think we’ll have to get off to a flying start and hopefully we can get some points on the board early on, ahead of these big fixtures and kick on throughout the remainder of the season.”

Since joining the Club from Huddersfield Town, Elford has become an important part of the Claret Women’s forward line.

The Yorkshire-born striker added that she is happy with the start she has had at the Club and that they are in a strong position for the future.
