Sean Dyche says his own expectations of Burnley won’t drop for the visit to Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.
The Clarets are still searching for a first league victory of the season but boss Dyche believes his side are capable of getting a result.
Last season, Burnley went to the defending champions at the time, Liverpool, and won 1-0, so Dyche insists the mindset won’t be altered by those outside the club writing off their chances this weekend.
“They (Manchester City) are a top side and there is no two ways about that,” he said.
“They have spent money wisely in my opinion, have a top manager and are moulded into a great unit.
“But we have beaten them, we have drawn against them before, we won at Liverpool and Arsenal last year, it just can be difficult against the top sides.
“It is cause for reality not concern, the Premier League is tough, the demands and expectations on yourself remain high. Generally we are playing well but need to tidy up the details.
“It is peculiar when people write you off, because you don’t lessen your demand on the group, but outsiders do. It is something that comes round your way when you’re Burnley.
“I don’t think people do it disrespectfully but now and again you can get the outcome that surprises them.
“We have done that quite a few times in our time at Burnley and are looking forward to taking the game on.”
Dyche’s men will travel to Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions after a 0-0 draw with Norwich City before the international break, having also drawn 2-2 with Leicester City a week prior.
Summer signing Nathan Collins made his Premier League debut that day and the defender impressed the Turf Moor crowd with a solid performance.
Dyche added: “Nathan played the last game and we thought he did a good job for us. It will be another obvious chance for him to play.
“We kept that end of the pitch closed well against Norwich I thought.
“His manner around the training ground, and professionalism, is excellent. He is delivering in training and has a real intent to learn.
“If he plays on Saturday of course it will be tough, but that is how you learn, by playing against the best.
“He has made a decent start in the cup games and played well I thought against Norwich, alongside Tarky (James Tarkowski) who was outstanding that day.”
Defender moves to Molineux
Collins chances of featuring in back-to-back Premier League games have possibly increased on the back of the news that Ben Mee won’t feature at the Etihad Stadium.
The Burnley captain has unfortunately tested positive for Covid-19 and will undergo a period of self-isolation.
Dyche confirmed the news, along with an update on forward Maxwel Cornet's hamstring problem.
“The only new problem we have is with Ben Mee, who has tested positive for Covid unfortunately, so he has to go back through the protocols before he comes back in," added Dyche.
“We are waiting to see how long it will be before he comes back.
“Maxwel has come through fine and he trained today, so we are expecting him to be available.
“It is important we keep players fit after a tough start, we have been pleased with the performances but need to have options.”
