Boss Sean Dyche urged his Burnley side not to rest on their laurels ahead of the trip to Wolves despite the Clarets’ impressive record against Wednesday’s opposition.
The Clarets have lost just one of their last ten meetings against Wolves, a run that stretches back to 2012, and will be buoyed by last season’s terrific 4-0 win at Molineux.
Striker Chris Wood bagged a first-half hat-trick on that memorable occasion but the Clarets are still looking for a first Premier League win away from Turf Moor this term, something that Dyche knows his side will have to earn.
The gaffer said: “We went about it in the right manner [last year], we took the game on from the first whistle, we know we’ve got to do that.
“Results against teams don’t guarantee you get the next one, but I think we have had a very good record against Wolves, the various meetings we’ve had.
“We’ve mostly played well against them and we’re going to have to do that again, they’re having a decent season.
“They’re a good outfit Wolves, they have been the last few seasons and now it seems they’ve found their feet and are having a strong season so far, so we know we’ve got to be on top of our game.”
The Clarets have only lost one of their last seven league games but only picked up three points in the 3-1 triumph over Brentford.
Dyche called on his side to build on some promising performances and revealed the ‘detail’ at both ends of the pitch can help his men pick up more vital points when they tackle the busy festive period.
He added: “This run, there’s been a good mentality to it, a good performance level and consistency.
“We are never far away I don’t feel, we have been pretty decent over this run of games and we know we have got to build on that.
“We can’t just wait for games to come and give us something, we know we have got to build on these performances and turn some of these close games into wins.
“The stats are good and all in the right direction, it’s the details at both ends of the pitch, both boxes - that’s the bit you’ve got to get spot on.
“We’ve looked more of a threat the last few weeks, but we’ve probably let a few soft goals in which is not like us, so tidying up both ends and if you play well as well you’ve got a fair chance of winning games.”
After Sunday’s home game against Tottenham was postponed amid heavy snowfall, defender James Tarkowski and midfielder Ashley Westwood will both sit out the trip to the Midlands after picking up their fifth yellow cards against Crystal Palace.
However, Dyche is confident his well-rounded Burnley squad can cope, with Nathan Collins and Jack Cork in line to deputise having been named in the XI for Spurs before the weather intervened.
He said: “They [Tarkowski and Westwood] are very good players, they have shown that over a longer period with us but we think we have got a good group here and a good squad, so it’s a great opportunity.
“Collins has done great this season when he’s played so he is getting more and more rounded in the way that we work, while Corky is well-versed in the Premier League, he understands it.
“We’ve got a number of players now and I like that, I like the squad demand - it’s an important thing for us and I believe in this squad totally.”
