Clarets manager Sean Dyche speaks on the visit of Premier League holders Manchester City, the Club’s internationals and the remaining 11 games this season.
Dyche on Manchester City:
“It’s a big challenge against City and the superpowers as I call them. They’re a fine side without a doubt - technical prowess, tactical understanding, pace, and all the rest of it – but we’ve beaten these sides in the past.
“You’ve got to try and get points from everywhere. [Last season], we went to Liverpool and won when no one fancied us, we beat Arsenal at their place, we’ve beaten City in the past too, so it’s achievable but it’s just tougher than the rest.
“Our mentality has to be firm, we have to go into the game believing in what we do, and we have to embrace the challenge then get ready for the next one after that.
“It’s very difficult and don’t get me wrong, I don’t think our season is going to be made on this game, but it’s helpful if you can get a result of some kind.”
Dyche on the six players involved over the international break:
“We’ve got a few internationals now and it’s nice to see them getting recognised. Wayne [Hennessey]’s 100 caps [for Wales] is an amazing achievement and we gave him a nice ripple of applause in training on Thursday morning for it, he didn’t get away with it!
“They’ve all come back in tact too, which is the important thing for us.”
Dyche on the remainder of the Premier League season:
“As a collective, we’ve got to make sure that we’re right for each game. Each game has its focus and we’re certainly focusing on Manchester City.
“You don’t go into any game wanting to draw or lose, you’re going into it to win. Our mentality is to set up a team that can win the game.
“The Premier League is unforgivable, it doesn’t give you a breather, so win or lose, we have to keep being relentless.”
Dyche on the importance of a strong return after three weeks without club action:
“Performances are key. We’ve got to come out of a long break and make sure that the players are performing. That’s going to give us strength ahead of the remaining games, but we’ll take on the challenge of City. That’s what you’ve got to do with these games.
“We have to keep fighting, we have to keep working, and we have to keep playing hard against whoever is in front of us. We’ve talked about it all season and the players know it anyway.”
Dyche on the group’s feel-good factor:
“There’s a good feel about the camp generally, and we’ve insisted upon that. It’s an important part of the culture which we’ve used to achieve things here over the years.
“They [the players] know what’s at stake and what’s in front of them, but there’s always a good energy about the group and that’s important to us.”
