Boss Sean Dyche was pleased with the second-half performance from his Burnley side as Aaron Lennon’s equaliser earned a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Lennon scored his second goal in three games to ensure Dyche’s men left Selhurst Park with a point.
And the gaffer spoke about a range of match topics following full-time in South London.
Dyche on Palace point:
“I wasn’t too disappointed with the first-half. We just didn’t find the true rhythm and the tempo of our game. It was a little bit lackluster, and we took a bit of time to settle down.
“But in the second-half, I thought that we put in a real strong display to go and get a result.
“I don’t feel we’ve been far off from competing over the course of the season, we’ve gone so close to getting the second, we’ve hit the bar, they’ve hit the post.
“It’s always tough coming down to this ground, and I know we’ve done well here in the last few seasons, but I thought the mentality was firm.
“We just didn’t ask enough questions in the first-half, we were a bit soft and a bit slow with the ball too many times, and in the second-half we really got at them, pushed them on the back foot on numerous occasions and played our own game.
“The response at half-time was terrific and to go about it with such a clear mentality and get the goal, set the tone for us.
“We’ve been getting the details right, the shape is good, the energy is good, the commitment to the cause is good and some of the play has been really good as well.”
Dyche on the three-game week and his side’s mentality
“It’s a pleasing week. I think the players have earned the right to do that, I said no-one gives you anything in the Premier League and they know that, and overall over the week, we put in three really big performances for different reasons.
“In the second-half, the mentality was fantastic again, they took the game on from the very first whistle which I asked them to do and they did.
Jack Cork happy with point on the road
“We’ve had a big week, an important week, and that’s another point on the board, it’s one loss in seven now so that’s good for the mentality of the side and how we’re going about it.
“We know the challenge right in front of us, we’ve had it before, and we will take it on.”
Dyche on player fitness and player performances:
We’ll just have to wait and see with Erik and hopefully it’s not too serious. Obviously, Maxwel will hopefully be clear now and we’ll try and get him fit. We’re getting players back fit. Corky’s put a big shift in, Jay has put a good shift in, we ask a lot of these players, and they are delivering.
“I thought Aaron Lennon was terrific again, he looks like he’s enjoying his football.”
Dyche on the fans:
“They’ve carried on, they support, they travel, and they get behind the team. It’s brilliant when we’ve had weeks like this because they deserve a lot of credit for that, and they’ve got their reward, as well as our reward.”
