Manager Sean Dyche said he thought his Burnley side were ‘excellent’ in the first half of their 3-1 win over Brentford on Saturday.
The Clarets recorded a first league win of the 2021-22 season, to give the boss the perfect anniversary present, nine years to the day since he first arrived at Turf Moor.
After the win, Dyche revealed that he didn’t feel his side's performance levels have been particularly low recently but was pleased to see the fine margins go in his favour.
“I am really pleased, the players have been working really hard recently," Dyche said.
“It was frustrating and awkward after games when you haven’t had a win. We kept speaking about getting those details right.
“Today we had another good performance but with those details in. Particularly the first half where I thought we were excellent
“I have been saying recently the performances were good and that it was fine margins, but it really came together today.
“I really liked the energy of the performance in that first half, but also some of the quality.
“I have mentioned recently the strikers would score, and Woody [Chris Wood] gets a goal with a really good finish, also Maxwel [Cornet] popping up with another one.
“We even had one [disallowed goal] that was a marginal offside. It probably is offside, but it must be very, very tight.”
Although visitors Brentford made the second half a much tighter affair and scored a late consolation, the hosts were in complete control for most of the game.
The manager may have seen a lot since he arrived at the club back in 2012, including promotions and European football, but he won’t have seen too many better first halfs than the one his team produced against Brentford.
When asked about his landmark achievement of nine years at Turf Moor, Dyche was quick to praise the backing of those around him at the club and, crucially, the supporters.

“I think the way the game has changed, managerial-wise changes can come quickly,” he said.
“The patience that the ownership here have showed, both new and old, when we have had tough times is important.
“The fans have also been very patient as well. Overall, we’ve earned the right [to be here] but have to continue to do so.
“Without that support I wouldn’t have been here so long, namely the first time we went down out of the Premier League and back up. That could have changed things quickly, but they decided to stick with me.
“Not just myself but I think many others during that time have rewarded the varying ownerships with what we have done and what we continue to do.”
The boss also praised his goalkeeper Nick Pope, who made a stunning save from Brentford striker Ivan Toney with the score at 1-0.
It was at a crucial point in the game and Dyche said it showed the Burnley number one is full of confidence following his injury earlier this year.
He added: “He was definitely at it today and hasn’t been far off [top form] himself.
“He had a pretty serious injury, but he is looking right back on it. I think his handling, coming out the box and dealing with crosses was excellent.
“I’m pleased for him because he is a top keeper, without a doubt.”
