Manager Sean Dyche was pleased with his side’s mentality as Burnley overcame Everton 3-2 at Turf Moor on Wednesday.
Nathan Collins had initially put Burnley in front early on, before Richarlison’s two penalties sent Frank Lampard’s Toffees into a half-time lead.
Jay Rodriguez levelled for the Clarets following the break and Maxwel Cornet’s late winner secured three points.
Dyche on the result:
“It’s pleasing. The mentality was good overall, we started well, and we started bright, we got a goal from a good set-piece and then out of nowhere they get a penalty when a player gets the wrong side of us, and then we sort of lost our way with our shape and the basics, we started to get nervous, and I understand that.
“Sometimes simple is best, and I had to remind them of that, and the mentality was go forward and attack them, and we scored three very good goals.
“The games have been tight all season. We grew it into the second-half, it was edgy, but then we started getting bodies and momentum forward.
“There was a feeling in the stadium that we deserved better but I think overall I was pleased with the fact the lads took it on.
Dyche on the performance
“It was a tricky game going into it, but we had a very good start, energy, and commitment. We spoke to the players, and we found the moments that count.
“The season throws up funny things, and they are the margins of football, you must score goals to get wins.
“It puts us on a platform now to perform, we now need to follow that up and keep with the mentality. We found really good moments, it’s another shift in the mentality to score three goals, but there’s a balance here and we want to improve, and we’re moving forward,
“Maxwel brings energy to the performance and he found himself in the right spot for the goal.
“I spoke to the centre-forwards about scoring goals, Jay took his goal well, and Vyds came on and he was a handful, and provided the assist for the winner.“
Dyche on moving forward and a win for the fans
“Everyone has got to want it, and everyone has got to be firm, we started to grow into the game, and we gave ourselves a platform.
“We can enjoy the result, but we want to make sure that we can control ourselves, it gets parked very quickly and it doesn’t guarantee you anything, it gets you closer and back in.
“We’re in better shape but we have to go and work for the next one, and it’s a big win to get back on track with.
“It’s a reminder that we have an attacking threat, it’s a big win and important win, they deserve it, the fans deserve it, they really do, as they have stayed resolute.”
