Defender Owen Dodgson discusses Scotland trip so far and looks ahead to first friendly

The U23s arrived at their Stirling University base on Monday afternoon, where the side, who are currently being led by former Tranmere and Shrewsbury Town boss Michael Jackson, is spending six days in a pre-season training camp.

The Clarets will face a Rangers XI on Wednesday afternoon at the Glasgow club’s training ground, before taking part in a second friendly on Saturday on their way back to Lancashire.

And left-back Owen Dodgson admits the group are looking forward to kicking off their pre-season schedule and have enjoyed the first few days over the border.

“First of all, it’s good to be back and I’ve enjoyed the first couple of days in Scotland. It’s been a good graft," said Dodgson, who signed his first professional contract with the Clarets when he clocked on for pre-season.

“It’s great facilities for us to train on, it’s got everything we need in a close capacity and it’s nice to be up here.

“The new lads have settled in well. It’s good to get away for a few days in pre-season and spend quite a bit of time together and get to know each other.

“Especially after being in lockdown for so long, it’s good that we’ve been able to come away and it’s been a good test so far for everyone.”

Jackson’s side will kick off their pre-season games' schedule against Rangers and Dodgson believes it’s an exciting way to start.

“We know it will be a big test against Rangers. They will be a good side, but we’re looking forward to it and hopefully come away with a good result as well," added the former Manchester United youngster.

“After coming back after a long break, you just want to get minutes in your legs and build your fitness back up to it’s best. But getting used to playing with each other and as a team is important.

“We have a strong group this year and if we start well and take on pre-season then that will carry on through into the season come August.”
