Josh Cullen insists there's 'no ceiling' on what the Clarets could achieve this season as Vincent Kompany's men prepare for their second game of the season this Sunday.
Burnley take on Villa at a sell-out Turf Moor and Cullen says that the belief is high within the group despite suffering defeat in the opening game of the 2023/24 campaign.
Ahead of the clash with the Villans, the Ireland international is hoping the Clarets can combine both the belief and team spirit with the game plan to record the first three points of the season and get the campaign underway.
The 27-year-old said: "We’re looking forward to it. We have belief and if we can go into it and implement the game plan that the manager and his staff come up with, I believe we can get a result, especially in front of our fans at home.
"The team are looking forward to getting back at home and get back out there after a bit of a break after the Luton game being postponed and hopefully we can get our first three points on the board.
"We know it won't be an easy task, they're a top side full of quality players who have a really good manager, so it’s gonna be another tough ask, a tough test."
The midfielder added: "I don't think that there’s ever a point in putting a ceiling on what we can achieve. If we work hard everyday as a group and work harder than the rest I suppose then you can, over time, become better than other teams.
"I think that’s something that we have to believe in. That everyday and every chance we have to work together, we do it to the best of our ability and apply ourselves mentally and physically everyday then we can really improve as a team and hopefully shock a few people along the way with what we can do."
Cullen committed his future to the Club earlier this week after penning a new three-year deal at Turf Moor to keep him a Claret until at least 2026.
The Irishman says he wants to continue the success from his first season at Burnley but believes there is no time to 'sit back and admire' his achievements from last year.
"Obviously I loved my first season at the club. I feel like from day one I really settled in really well with the group of lads and the team we’ve got here and obviously the coaching staff that I knew from Anderlecht.
"To come to the Club and have a great first season and really enjoy my football was brilliant. I want to continue that for a longer period of time and hopefully continue that in the Premier League for the next few years."
Cullen added: "To pick up a few awards, promotion to the Premier League, new contract, it’s all great. But, they’re the things that come from working hard and performing on the pitch.
"So, there’s really sort of no time to sit back and admire that too much. It’s down to work again and hopefully having a new season."
