Josh Cullen acknowledged Sunday's pre-season fixture with La Liga side Leganes as a 'test' for the Clarets, as the Irishman completed his first 90 minutes of the summer alongside plenty of others.
The Clarets took on the Spanish opposition in their final pre-season game on home soil at the Burnley Training Centre, before Scott Parker's side head to Spain on Monday for a week-long training camp.
Reflecting on the goalless draw, the 28-year-old said: “It was a strong test for us, different style of football compared to what we will probably come up against a lot this season, they made us work hard.
“They were a good side; they have just been promoted after winning the second division in Spain last year.
“They're a well drilled team, good in possession, pressed us well & that was their aim and it was a real competitive game for both sides."
Cullen added: “It's always good to get the first 90 minutes in the legs for me and a lot of the lads as we get to the tail end of pre-season.
“We always want fitness to build-up as pre-season develops and the main thing is everyone has got through it injury free against a good side today."
Burnley will now spend a week in Spain with the 2024/25 Championship campaign approaching and Cullen is looking forward to the trip and getting the group together.
“I’m probably where I need to be fitness wise, we’re in a good place, we’re working hard and there’s a good spirit around the place.
“We go to Spain on Monday now and it’s good for everyone to get away and be together for a week and that brings everyone together."
