Dom Cooper says that everyone involved knows what’s at stake for Burnley FC Women this weekend as they host Wolves, but the focus within the group is solely on getting three points.
The full-back, who is able to operate on either side, joined the Clarets ahead of last season and was a part of the team to beat the Wanderers, the only team to do so in the entirety of the 2021/22 campaign.
Burnley again got the better of Wolves in this season’s reverse fixture, winning 3-1 in the Midlands, but those games have been and gone, says Cooper.
“We know Wolves are a good team. They had a great season last year, and are having another good one this season too, but I still think we can go into the game confident and positive that we can get a good result out of it.

“We’ve obviously played them before, and the results have been good, but that doesn’t really count for anything going into this weekend.
“It’s a new game and a new challenge. For us, nothing’s really changed. We knew that we had to win all our games to even be in with a shout [of winning the league], and that’s still the same focus.
“We’ll go in on Sunday to get the three points, concentrating on our own game. I’m looking forward to it as are the whole team. We’ve prepared well, and we’re all just ready for it to come around now.”
Cooper - who recently lifted the LFA Women's Senior Cup with the Clarets - has played a part in all 20 of Burnley’s league games so far this term, the joint-highest appearance maker in the squad across all competitions alongside Evie Priestley & Lucy Walsh.

The defender admits it’s been a long season, but is prepared to give everything in the last two league games – and potentially a promotion play-off final – to get the side to where they want to be.
“Coming towards the back end of the season now, I’d say this is the toughest part of it.
“What gets you through though is wanting to finish off on a high, that’s important to all of us. We all know where we are in the table, where we could finish, and what we’re striving for. That’s what’s going to push us on until the end.
“That and the supporters who come down to watch us. Fans coming means a lot to all of us, and it’d mean even more if they could come down to our last two games now.
“We want as many people as possible there on Sunday, and then at Turf Moor the weekend after too when we play Liverpool Feds (30th April).”

Following the announcement of that game at Turf Moor earlier this week, Cooper also talked about just how enjoyable it is to be a part of the club.
She added, “I love it here, all of us do. I enjoy my time here so much, and I think that’s really important.
“People sometimes don’t see how much hard work goes into it, we train quite a lot and put a lot of hours in every week.
“Because of that, you want to get along well with your teammates, and we all genuinely do here. It’s a great set of girls, and a great club to be involved with.”
This Sunday’s game against Wolves will take place at the Anchor Ground in Darwen (BB3 0BB). Entry will be completely FREE!
