Demand for the foodbank continues to increase, with referrals for food parcels, which come via community hub Burnley Together, showing no signs of slowing.
Sean Danaher, Burnley FC in the Community Kitchen & Foodbank Manager said: “Since the start of the year we have never been busier. We have fed over 10,000 people, 3,000 of which were children. The effects of the pandemic continue to be far reaching, and we are delivering more food parcels than ever before.
“In addition to the deliveries, through our work supplying food to other partners and organisations in the town, we have helped indirectly feed another 3,000 people.”
The community kitchen, which is based in Charter Walk Shopping Centre, encompasses a foodbank, café, training kitchen and shop, with funds raised supporting the charity’s community work in the town.
“We have Veterans breakfast clubs, Extra Time sessions for senior citizens and a Dementia Café.
“We recently reopened our teaching kitchen which I’m really excited about. We can provide groups with the teachers and the materials, to learn basic cookery skills which people can use at home in their own kitchens.
“In partnership with Warburtons, our Early Kick-Off Breakfast Clubs helps feed 2,000 school children every week. Regardless of what is going on at home, those kids are guaranteed a good breakfast, which in turn helps with their education which is so important.”
