Representatives from Burnley FC, the Club’s official charity Burnley FC in the Community and Burnley Council have come together to show ongoing support for White Ribbon, the UK’s leading charity engaging men and boys to end violence against women and girls.
This year’s White Ribbon Day will take place on Saturday 25th November, and will mark 16 days of activism, which this year follows the theme of #ChangeTheStory.
The campaign calls on all organisations and individuals, particularly men and boys, to help end violence against women and girls by supporting one common cause. This starts with challenging the seemingly ‘harmless’ attitudes and behaviours that perpetuate violence against females.
The global movement aims to make meaningful change through initiatives including, building a community of change makers, raising awareness through campaigns, encouraging everyone to make the White Ribbon promise, by educating young people and by holding policymakers accountable.
Burnley FC Chairman Alan Pace, is aware of the significance of the campaign and the duty the football club has to lend it’s backing.
“We’re proud to show our continued support for White Ribbon Day and raise awareness of such an important campaign.

“It’s vital to encourage men to be allies and speak out about attitudes and behaviours that are unacceptable. As a football club, we stand together with the council and Burnley FC in the Community, to use our platforms to take a stand against violence against women and girls and show our solidarity to those who have been affected by domestic abuse.”
Community Safety Officer and Partnership Officer, Richard Brown said: “Burnley Council is committed to tackling gender violence and domestic abuse and is proud to have White Ribbon status.
“Domestic Abuse and violence are something that leaves a deep and lasting scar on people's lives, and the consequences are often as far reaching as they are damaging.
“The involvement and support of Burnley Football Club is invaluable in raising awareness and promoting the messages that the White Ribbon Campaign stands for to a wider audience.”
Helen Gurman, Chief Executive Officer at Burnley FC in the Community added: “Burnley FC in the Community proudly stand behind the White Ribbon Campaign. Together with Burnley Football Club, we take pride in our role within this crucial mission, striving to rewrite the narrative and create a future free from violence against women and girls”.
To show support for the campaign across the region, there will be displays which will include large white ribbons and banners, along with further information.
Participating libraries in each of the 12 districts in Lancashire are: Accrington, Burnley Campus, Burnley, Chorley, Clayton Green, Clitheroe, Colne, Fleetwood, Freckleton, Fulwood, Garstang, Great Harwood, Haslingden, Kingsfold, Lancaster, Leyland, Morecambe, Nelson, Ormskirk, Preston Harris Library, Rawtenstall, Skelmersdale, St Annes and Whalley libraries.
