Burnley FC Women face one of the biggest games in their short existence this weekend as they take on Sunderland in the FA Cup third round.
Awaiting the winners are Women’s Super League outfit Manchester United in round four, providing a real incentive for Matt Bee’s side to overcome their divisional rivals at Padiham on Sunday (2pm KO).
And after edging out Fylde thanks to a late penalty in round two last weekend, Bee knows they will have to up their game against Sunderland, who were runaway league leaders in the 2019/20 campaign before the season was curtailed early due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Sunderland will be a tough game so it will be a challenge. However, we’re ready to work hard, go again and hopefully put in another positive performance in the competition,” said Clarets manager Bee.
The Burnley Women are now firmly embedded into the club, training twice a week at Barnfield in preparation for only their second game since the league season was shut down through the pandemic.
Burnley's tie against Sunderland takes place at Padiham FC behind closed doors.
Updates will be available @BurnleyFCWomen and a full report and pictures will appear on the website following the game.
