Burnley Football Club today announced an exclusive and long-term partnership with Sorare, the player-owned fantasy sports game, to launch digital trading cards of the Clarets’ players.
Thanks to this partnership, Burnley fans will for the first time be able to collect, play with and trade digital cards of Burnley players on Sorare. Sorare will also be launching a new competition, “Second Division Europe”, where users can exclusively compete with player cards from Burnley and other teams in the EFL Championship, as well as other second divisions in Europe, in addition to entering them in Sorare’s global competitions.
By combining a free-to-play fantasy game with digital collectibles - underpinned by non-fungible technology to create digital scarcity for each card - Sorare brings fans closer to the game they love. Sports collectibles have long helped fans celebrate their love of football and with Sorare, Burnley fans can now experience a new world of online fandom where they can own and manage cards of their favorite players and hone their passion for the game.
The partnership with Sorare will provide Burnley FC access to valuable new revenue streams, and help to grow its international reach by engaging new fans, including Sorare’s 2 million registered users, in markets across the world.
Gordon Kaye, Commercial Director at Burnley FC, added: “We are an ambitious football club, always on the lookout for ways we can harness new technologies to enhance fan experience, and this is a perfect opportunity. Sorare’s innovative fantasy game is a great example of how online football fandom is evolving, and we’re excited to partner together.”
Michael Meltzer, Head of Business Development of Sorare, said: “As one of England’s oldest football clubs, we’re excited to partner with Burnley to bring Clarets’ players to our game and create new opportunities for the club to connect with football fans across the globe.
“There is plenty of talent in the Burnley squad, and we look forward to seeing who will become firm favourites for Sorare managers as the team strives to bring Premier League football back to Turf Moor next season.”
