Players and staff spread festive cheer in the local community

The Burnley FC players, Head Coach Scott Parker and coaching staff made some special trips to several community projects recently to spread some Christmas cheer!

A number of the squad visited Burnley General Teaching Hospital, whilst Scott Parker and a group of players took a trip to the children's ward at The Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

The squad handed out Christmas presents donated by the Club and met staff and volunteers on the ward.

Hannah, a Paediatric Sister from Burnley General Teaching Hospital, said: "It's been really lovely. I work on one of the day case units for the children, they usually come for surgery, and I think it's lifted the spirits. A few of them were quite anxious before going for the procedures and there were some Burnley supporters, we all really appreciate the Burnley team coming today."

Clarets defender CJ Egan-Riley added: "The football club is nothing without the people in the town and the community so anything we can do to give back, we enjoy doing days like this. People are going through stuff and if we can change even one person's day and put a smile on their face, then we're happy."

The Club also supported the important work of official charity Burnley FC in the Community, with Connor Roberts and Aaron Ramsey surprising children from Christ the King Primary School, who are part of the charity's Premier League Primary Stars programme at Burnley FC in the Community's Foodbank and Burnley Together's Down Town in the town centre.

The players helped the children build and decorate gingerbread houses and then challenged them to a present-wrapping competition, which the children won.

The next stop was Sabden Primary School, another Premier League Primary Stars partner school. Enock Agyei, Etienne Green, and Bashir Humphreys met every child in the school and participated in activities such as indoor hoopla, snowball throwing with Buddy the Elf, and pin the red nose on the reindeer.

The final visit was to the Walking Football Christmas Party, where John Egan, Zian Flemming, and Hjalmar Ekdal joined for a Christmas quiz and prize-giving ceremony.

Burnley FC in the Community's Sports Development Manager Chanelle McManus expressed her gratitude to the Club for the festive visits.

"We would like to say a huge thank you to the players for coming down. Our Walking Football team is made up of so many die-hard, lifelong football fans, so it was really special for the players to be part of our Christmas celebrations."

Over the festive season the Club also made a donation of toys to Safenet Domestic Abuse Service. The organisation covers the North West of England, with support services based in Burnley, Lancaster, Bury, Preston, Chorley, Leyland and Wyre.
