12/09/2015 – Burnley 3 – 1 Sheffield Wednesday (Turf Moor)

Burnley secured a third consecutive victory to move into the play-off places in the Sky Bet Championship after a deserved three points against Sheffield Wednesday.

David Jones netted an early opener from a free-kick for the Clarets, before Wednesday striker Atdhe Nuhiu pulled the scores level midway through the first-half.

Substitute Matt Taylor then fired the home side back in front 12 minutes before full-time, with Andre Gray rounding off the afternoon in the final minute with his first goal for the Club.

The Clarets started on the front foot at Turf Moor and it took just seven minutes to break the deadlock, after Jones was brought down by Owls defender Sam Hutchinson, the midfielder stood over the resulting free-kick and picked out the top corner with a perfect strike.

After going a goal behind, Wednesday livened up and got their equaliser in the 20th minute. Daniel Pudil’s pin-point cross found Nuhiu inside the area, with the towering forward crashing home a first-time header into the back of the net.

Scott Arfield then saw an effort on the edge of the box blocked, which caused a goalmouth scramble, only for Michael Keane to stab it just wide of the target from close range.

The final chance of the first-half saw Gray flash an effort inches wide of the bottom corner, with the Clarets finishing the opening 45 minutes on top.

The Owls started the second-half brightly and came close to taking the lead when Fernando Forestieri teed up Nuhiu, but the striker could only fire straight at Tom Heaton.

With the game still level on the hour, Sean Dyche introduced Taylor from the bench and it took the winger just over 10 minutes to put Burnley back in front. Gray raced down the right wing and picked out Taylor inside the box, who side-footed a volley into the roof of the net.

Burnley then rounded off the afternoon in the 90th minute, as Gray stole possession from Liam Palmer, before breaking into the area and slotting home past Joe Wildsmith to seal the three points.
