02/05/2016 – Burnley 1 – 0 Queens Park Rangers (Turf Moor)
Burnley secured an instant return to the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over QPR at Turf Moor, which confirmed a top-two finish for the Clarets and Premier League football for the 2016/17 campaign.
After Brighton & Hove Albion drew with Derby County in the early kick-off, Burnley knew three points against the R's would seal promotion back to the top-flight.
Although there wasn't much between the two teams in the first hour of the game, Sam Vokes then headed home a Dave Jones free-kick, which turned out to be the winning goal.
It was the visitors who struck the first effort on target, as former Blackpool man Matt Phillips worked himself into space and unleashed a strike from 25-yards, but Tom Heaton was equal to it.

It was a cagey first-half and Burnley's first real chance didn't come until early in the second, as the ball fell kindly to Scott Arfield on the edge of the box, with the midfielder looping an effort just over the crossbar.
Andre Gray then had an opportunity to give the hosts the lead, after the striker latched onto a ball over the top of the Rangers defence, but the forward could only guide it wide of the target from inside the area.
However, as the clock passed the hour mark Burnley got their opener, as Vokes met Jones' perfectly-timed free-kick and the Welshman guided a header into the far corner past Matt Ingram.

The visitors came close to an equaliser shortly after, as Alejandro Faurlin's curling strike from outside the box rattled the inside of the post.
An Ingram save then denied Burnley doubling their lead in the final 15 minutes, when Vokes saw his back-heel to lay-off Arfield saved by the legs of the QPR goalkeeper.
Burnley did hold on and seal the win in a memorable afternoon at Turf Moor, as Sean Dyche's side returned to the Premier League.
