01/10/2006 – Norwich City 1 – 4 Burnley (Carrow Road)

Andy Gray’s impressive brace either side of James O’Connor and Alan Mahon goals saw Burnley secure a third win in four games, with a well-deserved victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The Clarets took the lead through O’Connor’s strike on the half-hour mark, before Gray’s terrific header made it two.

The forward added his second and Burnley’s third just past the hour, before City’s Robert Earnshaw pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute, with Mahon’s late driving effort sealing the win.

Following an even opening in Norfolk, the first goal of the game fell to the Clarets, as O’Connor’s shot found its way in and gave the visitors the opening goal.

With half-time then approaching, Burnley doubled their lead through Gray’s bullet header from just inside of the area, which looped over the head of Gallacher and into the back of the net.

After heading into the break and trailing by two goals, Norwich’s afternoon got even harder when Gary Doherty was shown a straight red card for a foul.

Burnley then looked to have put the game out of reach when Gray turned home his second of the game from close range just after the hour mark.

Both Michael Duff and Frank Sinclair struck the woodwork for the Clarets, before Earnshaw reduced the arrears with eight minutes left.

The lead was extended just before the full-time whistle, as Mahon’s fierce strike from 16-yards out found the bottom corner to cap off a dominant display.
