Following the international break and a long trip to Southampton it’s my pleasure to welcome the team back to Turf Moor after a few weeks away, as we host Newcastle United.
After a tough loss on the south coast I’m sure everyone will be delighted to get back on home soil and renew focus on a lot of important upcoming games.
While the result wasn’t what we wanted, it was heartening to see both Chris Wood and Matej Vydra on the scoresheet. Chris picked up where he left off before the break and continued a fine run of goals since returning from injury and we hope he can make it four scoring games in a row against Newcastle.
It is testament to the team’s form that it was only our second defeat in eight games and hopefully we can get back on track against Newcastle.
No doubt we’ll need to be at our best, with Steve Bruce’s team having only lost one in the last five league matches and I look forward to what promises to be a hard-fought contest on the pitch.
I was delighted to see our women’s team pull off a great win against Fylde Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup last weekend and they will also be playing today against Sunderland Ladies in the third round.
Friday marked 100 days since I became Chairman and it’s been a whirlwind period where, alongside launching a global talent search via AiSCOUT, one of our earliest steps was to announce our intention to professionalise the women’s team.
That was back in February, so I was proud to see the first step taken as we welcomed manager Matt Bee and his team to Barnfield Training Centre for training ahead of the win.
With our ‘One Club For All’ mantra, we all wish Burnley FC Women the best of luck in their game today.
Developing the women’s team has been a part of the incredible amount of work which has been put in behind the scenes during my first 100 days, so thank you to everyone at Turf Moor and beyond.
Right now, planning for the prospect of getting fans back into Turf Moor before the end of the season is front of our mind.
We of course must wait and see what the decision is on whether it will be this season or next, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed on some positive developments in the coming days.
We’re working on lots of exciting elements to improving the stadium experience, from hospitality to ticketing for next season.
We can’t wait to welcome you back to Turf Moor soon.
For now, I hope you all enjoy today’s game in the comfort of your own home.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
